I’m thrilled to share an update on the little Emerald-spotted Wood Dove that Adel and her boys rescued last week! The tiny bird, affectionately known as a “Groenvelekduifie” in Afrikaans, was found with most of its tail feathers missing and a wing injury.

Thanks to the quick thinking and care of Adel and the boys, it’s now receiving top-notch care at our wildlife sanctuary. Our team is working hard to nurse it back to health, and we’re hopeful for a full recovery.

Here are some fun facts about these stunning birds:

– Emerald-spotted Wood Doves are found in the subtropical forests of southern Africa.

– They’re known for their beautiful emerald-green spots on their wings and back.

– These birds are monogamous, and pairs often stay together for many breeding seasons.

– Their diet consists mainly of fruits, seeds, and insects.

At Free Spirit Wildlife Sanctuary, we’re dedicated to being the voice of the voiceless, and we couldn’t do it without supporters like you. Your contributions help us provide vital care for birds like this little dove.

We’ll keep you updated on its progress, and thanks again for being part of our wildlife family!
