We are thrilled to share an update on our three newest arrivals and 2024 rescues: Rambo, Oscar, and little Ivan! These three baby vervet monkeys are doing incredibly well, and we are so grateful for your support in giving them a second chance.

Meet the Babies

• Rambo was nearly sold for R350 to a local, but thankfully, the police were called for assistance and helped rescue this precious baby.
• Little Ivan was a tiny, few weeks old victim of the illegal wildlife trade. A Good Samaritan, with the help of the police, confiscated him and brought him to us. He’s so small that he’s being bottle-fed every two hours and kept warm with a heating pad, cozy blankets, and soft teddies. He is safe now and will be transferred to WATCH in about two months, where he’ll eventually join a troop.
• Oscar was also a victim of the illegal wildlife trade, nearly sold for R1000. We don’t know what happened to his mother, but we’re so glad he’s safe with us. He arrived with ticks and was in bad shape, but after a warm bath and a good cleaning, he’s drinking his milk and doing much better. He will be introduced to Rambo soon, as these social animals need the company of a troop.

It’s a long process to rehabilitate these animals, but we feel so blessed to be working with people who share our passion for wildlife. These babies are happy, healthy, and in good hands.

Please, Let Wildlife Be Wild

We want to take a moment to address a critical issue. We often see people trying to keep vervet monkeys as pets. While they may be cute as babies, they are wild, social animals. They will grow up and start biting, and they can’t simply be released into the wild once they’re adults. It takes a long and careful process to get them back to a troop. If you love monkeys, the best thing you can do is leave them in the wild for everyone to enjoy. They do not make good pets.
