Why Every Bird Matters*

Look closely at these faces.

Hungry. Helpless. Hoping.

This is why we rescue birds at Free Spirit Wildlife Sanctuary.

*Why rescue them?*

Because most “orphaned” chicks aren’t truly abandoned. Storms destroy nests. Trees get cut down. Parents are killed by cars, cats, or poison. Without us, they don’t stand a chance. One tiny life saved today becomes hundreds flying free tomorrow.

*Why are birds so important?*

Birds are the heartbeat of a healthy ecosystem:

🌱 *Gardeners of the forest* — They spread seeds and pollinate plants. No birds = fewer trees.

🐛 *Nature’s pest control* — One pair of swallows can eat thousands of insects in a season. They keep malaria-carrying mozzies in check.

🧹 *Clean-up crew* — Vultures, crows, and others stop disease by cleaning up carcasses.

🌍 *Indicators of health* — When bird populations crash, it’s a warning sign that our environment is in trouble.

Every bird we release back to the wild is a seed-sower, a bug-eater, a song-singer put back where it belongs.

At Free Spirit, we tube-feed the hatchlings, splint the broken wings, and teach the fledglings to fly. It’s round-the-clock, messy, exhausting work. And it’s worth every second.

*You can help protect them:*

🌳 Keep cats indoors at dawn/dusk

🪟 Put decals on windows to prevent strikes

🌾 Avoid pesticides in your garden

📞 Call us if you find a bird in distress — don’t try to raise it yourself

They may be small, but their impact is massive.

*Saving one bird helps save us all.* 💚
